Gli attori, quando recitano in un film, hanno lo scopo di sospendere
nell’audience l’incredulità. Non vedete più l’attore, ma il personaggio che
rappresenta. E siete talmente assorbiti e coinvolti dal film al punto che, in
quel momento, percepite la storia che viene raccontata come se fosse vera: vi
commuove, vi diverte, vi fa sognare. Chi è che in letteratura parla di
sospensione dell’incredulità? Il primo a parlarne, fu il filosofo e critico
letterario Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1777-1834). Scrisse che è proprio la
sospensione dell’incredulità che ci fa godere e apprezzare una storia. Ogni
lettore quindi non pretende l’assoluto realismo, ma, come ammoniva Coleridge,
quello che nessuno è disposto a sopportare è l’incoerenza del racconto.
Facciamo attenzione quindi, nei nostri scritti, a mantenere sempre questa
coerenza interna.

The actors, when acting in a
film, are meant to suspend disbelief in the audience. You no longer see
the actor, but the character he represents. And you are so absorbed and
involved in the film to the point that, at that moment, you perceive the story
that is told as if it was true: it moves you, it entertains you, makes you
dream. Who spoke of suspension of
disbelief in literature? The first to talk about it was the philosopher and literary
critic Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1777-1834). He wrote that it is precisely
the suspension of disbelief that makes us enjoy and appreciate a story.
Therefore, every reader does not claim absolute realism, but, as Coleridge
